While social media has connected all of us and has provided a space where one can express their opinions freely, it has also led to moral sensibilities trickling in, demanding for #Bollywood movies and shows to simply not exist or be boycotted. Do you think, some of these movies, if they released in theatres today, would not get backlash from social media?

Well well what u call artistic expression is an articulated but subtle view/ opinion of the storyteller ,although set in a fictional world it does change the perception of people about things in real world.
Those voicing their opinion of banning the thing are also excercising the same freedom of expression.
Now going in troubled waters and still crying over it , is of no help.
There will be turmoils

Such a cute woke you are Anmol????. What irks you if people choose a certain film to NOT give it a watch? That's their right, right! Banning is a different thing and I would support it only in a case when India, Gods & religious Places etc are made fun of and attacked (like in PK). You cann't virtue signal people for NOT watching a film i.e. boycotting it.
Now coming to your point which implies that SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THIS ERA that we wittness resistence from the people (here, from your 5 examples it implies, a certain set of people, the Hindu Nationalists) quite often. Look my friend, it's the age of internet, malicious propaganda against anything last few hours. People are more vocal these days. But before you romanticise about the pre-Internet era, let me remind you few incidents of 'resistance' being offered by the people.
1. In 1995 Maniratnam had to be hospitalised when certain fundamentalists actually bombed his house because he showed a Muslim girl marrying a Hindu boy in his movie Bombay. Must've heard about it!!
2. In 2001, screens were set on fire, literally, ruckus was created during the screenings of Gadar movie in Bhopal, Ahmadabad, Mumbai. Reason and culprits being the same as above in the point 1. What a marvellous way to cherish one's FoE !! (Not even going to even talk about Kamlesh Tiwari, will stick to movies only)
3. In 1992, Japanese anime movie 'Rama the warrier prince' was banned to be produced in India by the GOI in order to achieve religious harmony amidst of Ram JanmaBhoomi movement. WTH..as if people didn't had hard copies of Ramayanam at their homes.
4. Movies like Aandhi & Kissa Kursi Ka (just to name of few out of many) were banned by Congress even then…and some of them would have been opposed or banned by BJP, so what! Why to insinuate that people would have opposed to these 5 movies if they are to be released TODAY. It's not a recent culture.
And yes, if you want to consider particularly these 5 films, YES few of them would have got some resistance from Hindu Nationalists (exceptions being Nayak and Rang De Basanti where the henious Marxist propaganda was smartly and beautifully served under the garb of patriotism by drawing parllels with great Indian patriots, people would hardly note it or challenge it). The Hindutva pysche will challenge anything that mocks/degrades/attacks India and Hinduism which has been the soul of this 1000s of years old Indian culture.
Films like Haider and Dil Se will be challenged (now matter how brilliantly they portray 'a human story' or how good their music is or how creatively they blend a novel with the present day political scenerio) till the time they show Indian Army in bad light and sympthaize with separatist elements. Reason being that the respect and love for India and the Indian Army is MUCH MORE than the admiration for the craft of that particular director. Easy boycott.
PK would receive a demand of ban till it edits out the Shiva part. OMG is a movie which needs a good rebuttal. It may face a boycott from the Believers because of the mockery of Belief, made from the point of view of Neo-Athiests.
If a bunch of people has the audacity and right to produce some nonsense, the viewers has the equal right to reject it outrightly. Mere virtue signalling by someone cann't compell (morally) to watch a film which just doesn't suit one's ideology. You may choose to sit on the fence (atleast publicly, kyuki ghar bhi to chalana hai), that's your ideology (and I don't have any problems with that) but then you shouldn't (you can but you shouldn't) tell others to give a try to the rest of others' ideology.
You in your video say (helplessly) that there are only two sides on twitter, thus giving your viewers a perception that you 'actually' sit on fence. Then I wonder why would you choose these 5 films only!????????

Well after 2014 there is instantaneous boom in social media platforms thanks to cheaper data and many people directly connected to youtube twitter etc other than TV and this is a reaction of what you can expect from people whether you agree or not it is for everyone and everyone wants to say something may be they are are wrong but this is starting point of our democracy that people now raising some issues
Earlier there is nothing for mass people to say something
Try to understand this

When Japan made Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama…
People in India were against its release as they said that no other foreigner can remake an Indian Mythological movie..

Isn't it wierd that A garbage like Judwaa 2 is telecasted every other Sunday on TV.. but A masterpiece like Rang De Basanti is never telecasted.
March 21st, 2021 at 3:52 pm
that boycott trend is just made by IT cell on twitter to divert attention from main issues.. or it is made for those actors movies who speak against govt.
March 21st, 2021 at 4:38 pm
Yes
I still don't understand how people even get offended over a movie.
I was triggered when they removed 72 hoor scene and tried to boycott uri also ????

Hi , this is an amazing video. And I know it soon going to get banned with reason that you are trying to show the mirror which in these days no body want to see. But I would request you to try as much as possible to keep this video and keep creating same kind of video.
I loved it that somebody understand the real meaning of opinion

I call for a boycott of mindless comedies and movies that treat women as "maal" and all movies with "item numbers".
Why u ask?
Because it offends my sensibilities!!!

I think those sort of people can't take a story..as a story..they just want to take everything seriously which goes against their beliefs. ..This is also one of the reason why very few exceptional products are being produced in India..
